Inquest Research of Enslaved Cemeteries in Charlotte
LeadershipThe Cemetery Work Committee at Comprehensive Genealogical Services in Charlotte is responsible for developing, scheduling, and conducting an Inquest of Enslaved Cemeteries. The members of this committee are actively involved in seeking the location, restoration, and preservation of the 6,541 documented enslaved persons (and perhaps more undocumented persons) buried in Mecklenburg County by 1860. The committee also provides leadership, information, and other genealogical services to any group engaged in similar activities of restoration and preservation of slave cemeteries.
